Prize Money: Rs. 45,000/-

Registration Fees:

  • Rs 400 (Non SAE members).
  • Rs 350 ( SAE members).

Last day of registration:12th Feb 2010
Abstract last day: 15th feb 2010

Problem Statement:
The objective of this event is to design a wireless remote controlled 4-wheeled vehicle powered by an IC engine that will surpass a specially designed off-road obstacle arena.

Select your own path to clear all the obstacles in the shortest time & claim your laurels

Rules:

  1. The event is spread over 3 days. The1st day of the event will be free practice. Slots will be given to each team to come and practice on the track. Teams are requested to adhere to the time slot given to them.
  2. The 2nd day of the event will be qualifying. There will be 2 time trials for each team of which the faster lap will be considered.
    Qualifying:
    1. Eliminations are based on equestrian style Time Trial.
    2. Objective is to clear ALL obstacles in the shortest possible time.
    3. Penalty will be imposed for not clearing an obstacle.
    4. Only one chance will be given per obstacle.
    5. Operator will have to stand on the controlling ramp.
    6. Another team member will stand near the ramp and go reset the car to the nearest crossed checkpoint if required and return to the original position
  1. Top teams (no. will be decided based on entries) will qualify for the finals on the 3rd day.
The pattern for the 3rd day will be a one-on-one race over two continuous laps, with the winner making it to the next round. Any team that is not ready for the qualifying or the race at the specified time will automatically be eliminated from the competition.

Semi- Finals and Finals:

  • It will be a one-on-one race event.
  • The race track will be disclosed on the day of the event.
  • It will be an off-road track in the same area as the obstacle arena and will contain some of the obstacles used in the qualifying round.

General rules:

  1. The participants must place their machines at the start line before start of the race. Any vehicle starting before hand will be given a warning and will be allowed to restart. However if they repeat the false start again then the run will disqualified.
  2. The team will be disqualified if any damage to the track is observed.
  3. The vehicle must remain intact throughout the race.
  4. Teams will have to deposit their wireless Remote Controllers with the management so that they don’t interfere with any other vehicle.
  5. No power supply will be given on the track.
  6. Teams are not allowed to purposefully damage the machine of the opponent’s team. If found doing so on track (while racing), the concerned team will be disqualified. Any team that is not competing in the right spirit and indulging in misbehavior will be disqualified. Execution of this rule will be subjective and relies completely on judges’ discretion.
  7. Any team that is not ready for the qualifying or the race at the specified time will automatically be eliminated from the competition.
  8. The organizers reserve the rights to change any of the above mentioned rules as they deem fit.

Team Rules:

  • A team may consist of a minimum 2 members and maximum of 5 members.
  • Each person can be part of one team only.
  • Only one car per team is allowed.
  • The members of a team can be from different colleges.

Machine Specifications:

  1. It should be a four-wheeled vehicle. The choice of tyre size is left to the participants.
  2. It is left to your discretion to decide the dimensions of your vehicle (though we do not specify maximum dimensions, it will be preferable that the vehicle is not more than 27 inches long and 20 inches wide). However the vehicle must run on the track itself and must not damage any part of the track.
  3. The vehicle should be controlled wirelessly. The participants have to bring 2 remote controls of distinct frequencies or a dual-frequency remote control, which can be switched to either frequency just before the start of the run. This is done to avoid frequency interference with competing machines.
  4. The machine must not be made from ready made kits like Lego or Meccano sets or any other kits available in the market.
  5. However remote controls can be used from various model cars or toys or even those purchased from the market.
  6. The machine may be roughly classified into structural and functional parts:
Functional parts - Gears, differential gear shift, engine with clutch, pulley and pulley belt, springs, motors and servos (non propulsion purposes only), batteries, wheels and suspensions are allowed to be used as available in the market.
Structural parts - Chassis, body and body cover, steering mechanism have to be built by the participants themselves. JUDGING for the same will be strict and the participant will be IMMEDIATELY DISQUALIFIED if any of the above structural components is found to be ready made.
  7. The team must build the braking mechanism and the mounting of the suspension system. The body cover should be detachable so that the interior can be inspected. Note that the decision of the judges will be final and binding and any team found guilty of using ready made parts mentioned in this point will be disqualified.
  8. The machine must be propelled forward using IC engines (max capacity of 3.5 cc). But use of any other chemicals, compressed gas, rocket powered systems, DC motors or any other means are not allowed.
  9. START CONTROL MECHANISM: The start control mechanism must not provide any thrust to the vehicle along direction of motion of track. The staring mechanism must be removable and not interfere with the race.
  10. The vehicle will be inspected before hand and will be disqualified if found dangerous by the judges.
  11. The vehicle is allowed to have a reverse mechanism

Written Description of Vehicle working:

A written abstract must be prepared and submitted at the time of the event.
The following points should be kept in mind while preparing the abstract:

  1. The basic steering mechanism of your vehicle must be displayed with diagrams or pictured mentioning their working. Note that readymade kits or re-assembled kits are not allowed.
  2. Basic empty Chassis design and pictures of the built chassis should be provided.
  3. Specifications of all other components like Engine, motors, suspensions, etc must be provided.
  4. Any other mechanisms used which might provide your vehicle with an advantage must also be mentioned in the abstract and an explanation of the same must also be given.

(Note: The above abstract is being asked for so that we assess your efforts put into your machine.)
